At SAP TechEd 2025, SAP laid out a transformative vision for enterprise technology, emphasizing how artificial intelligence, intelligent agents, and even quantum computing are set to supercharge developers and redefine business processes.
The era of AI impacting development is no longer theoretical; it's here, and SAP is positioning developers as the architects of smart, connected businesses. The company's strategy hinges on three pillars: making SAP more open to existing developer tools, building the most context-rich agentic platform, and introducing groundbreaking foundation models. A key announcement was SAP Rapid One, the first foundation model specifically designed for structured business data, promising to predict business futures and enhance decision-making.
Data remains paramount in the age of AI, and SAP is addressing challenges like data silos and lack of context with SAP HANA Cloud and SAP Business Data Cloud. A strategic partnership with Snowflake will further enhance data and AI capabilities, while the new Data Product Studio empowers data teams with greater control. SAP Rapid One itself comes in small, large, and an open-source version, offering flexibility for super-fast predictions or high accuracy. Its integration with SAP HANA Cloud and AI Foundation is already demonstrating real-world impact, such as forecasting sales inquiry closure likelihood.
SAP's commitment extends to responsible AI, evidenced by the introduction of 'AI for Europe,' ensuring sovereign, locally resident, and privacy-compliant AI. The expansion of intelligent agents is also a major focus, with 20 agents already shipped and 40 expected by year-end. Through Juul Studio and SAP Build, developers can extend ready-to-use agents, add new tools, and implement pre/post reasoning skills. The new agent-to-agent (A2A) protocol is set to become the 'new API,' enabling collaborative task completion through agentic orchestration. Furthermore, SAP is publishing fine-tuned ABAP LLMs with SAP ABAP 1, specialized for modern ABAP code, and enhancing integration foundations with conversational AI and automation.
Looking beyond current horizons, SAP is making significant strides in quantum computing. While not building quantum computers, SAP is focused on inventing algorithms and business processes for this nascent field, believing quantum will join classical and AI compute in enterprise stacks. This integration will make quantum capabilities seamlessly appear within existing enterprise workflows.
