At SAP TechEd 2025, a groundbreaking developer demo showcased how to effortlessly event-enable SAP Cloud Application Programming (CAP) apps, transforming traditional processes into dynamic, event-driven workflows.
The session, titled "Developer Demo: Event-Enable Your CAP App with SAP Cloud Application Event Hub," provided a practical walkthrough using a new player onboarding scenario. The presenter illustrated how a new hire event in SAP SuccessFactors could automatically trigger subsequent processes across other SAP cloud applications. This capability is crucial for organizations aiming to streamline operations and ensure real-time data consistency across their diverse IT landscapes.
The core of this integration lies with SAP Cloud Application Event Hub, an event broker within SAP BTP. The demo detailed the configuration steps, starting with creating an "eventing formation" between SAP cloud systems. This automatically establishes connections with the Event Hub, preparing systems to exchange events. A key highlight was defining an integration dependency for the custom CAP application to receive specific events, followed by the simple act of enabling a subscription in the Event Hub UI, which instantly configured the broker to route SuccessFactors events to the CAP app.
The live demonstration brought the concept to life. A new hire, "Oscar Benji," was added in SAP SuccessFactors, and almost instantaneously, the event was successfully received by both the custom CAP application and SAP Build Process Automation. This real-time verification underscored the power and efficiency of an event-driven architecture, eliminating delays and manual interventions.
Looking ahead, the presenter emphasized the scalability of this solution, noting that these events can be easily forwarded to other SAP BTP services like SAP Integration Suite and Advanced Event Mesh. This capability allows enterprises to build a comprehensive, larger event-driven architecture, ensuring that critical business events propagate seamlessly across the entire organization and beyond.
