- SAP Joule agents now extendable with custom tools and live data.
- New capabilities enable real-time risk assessment in dynamic business scenarios.
- Unified execution flow provides unprecedented transparency for AI operations.
At SAP TechEd 2025, SAP showcased a groundbreaking demonstration of how businesses can significantly enhance their AI capabilities by extending SAP Joule agents using Joule Studio and SAP Build. This innovation promises to transform how organizations manage complex, dynamic situations, such as fluctuating currency risks.
The demonstration highlighted a common business challenge: processing a large sales inquiry from a customer in a country with volatile currency exchange rates. Traditionally, such a scenario presents considerable risk. However, with the power of SAP Joule AI agents, businesses can now proactively address these challenges. The session illustrated how an initial accounts receivable agent could fetch basic customer payment history, but the real breakthrough came in extending its functionality.
Using Joule Studio and SAP Build, developers can now easily extend ready-to-use Joule agents. The process involves creating a new project, adding the accounts receivable agent from a library, and then integrating new 'tools' – essentially custom capabilities. For instance, the demo showed how to add a document outlining an order handling policy and, critically, a custom Joule capability to fetch live currency exchange rates. This grounds the agent in specific business contexts and empowers it with real-time data for informed decision-making.
The enhanced agent was then put to the test. By prompting it with the sales inquiry, the system demonstrated its new 'superpowers': considering the order policy and displaying the foreign currency risk directly within the summary. A key takeaway was the introduction of a unified, transparent timeline view of the entire execution flow. This feature addresses a long-standing demand for greater visibility into AI agent operations, ensuring reliability and fostering trust in automated processes.
“This is that unified transparent view of the entire execution flow. This is a transparency you all asked for.”
