SAP TechEd 2025 showcased a groundbreaking demonstration of Joule Studio within SAP Build, revealing how developers can extend SAP Joule's capabilities by crafting custom skills and sophisticated AI agents. This session highlighted the platform's potential to streamline business processes and enhance user interaction through intelligent automation.

The demonstration began by illustrating the ease of creating Joule extensions within the SAP Build lobby. Developers can configure custom skills by providing a name, a crucial description that dictates when Joule will trigger the skill, and defining both input and output parameters. This foundational setup allows for precise control over the skill's behavior, including whether Joule or the skill itself generates the user message.

A key highlight was the profound integration of Joule skills with SAP Process Automation. The session showcased how a skill could call process automation APIs, bind data, and manage complex workflows. A compelling example involved a new hire onboarding process, where a SuccessFactors event triggered a BTP Process Automation. A Joule skill was then used to retrieve process information, request approvals, and even fetch task owner details from SuccessFactors, culminating in the approval of the task and completion of the entire process, all through a low-code skill built in Joule Studio.

Moving beyond individual skills, the presentation introduced the concept of custom AI agents. These agents are built by defining their expertise, instructions, and even their behavioral tone. The platform supports the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs), offering both base models for starting points and advanced models for deep analysis, alongside pre-processing for prompt decomposition and post-processing for response refinement. Further enhancing agent intelligence, the demo showed integration with a calculator for cost estimation and SAP AI Core for document grounding, allowing agents to access and apply relocation policies.

The power of these AI agents was vividly demonstrated through a new hire relocation benefits scenario. The agent, configured with specific instructions and integrated tools, successfully processed a prompt, performed calculations, and then leveraged a previously created Joule skill to compose and send a personalized email to the new hire. This end-to-end automation, from complex data processing to direct communication, underscores Joule Studio's capability to deliver sophisticated, intelligent solutions for enterprise challenges.

Now calling a process automation is quite powerful because it means that the entire extensive capability of process automation is already built in to Juul Studio.
